Grantsville Junior High School had its annual black powder rifle shoot on May 17.
Volunteers from the community demonstrated the firing of their black powder rifles for the students. Many students had never seen or held a musket. Through this demonstration, students became familiar with firearms used during the Civil War period.
Living history demonstrations were offered by members of the Western Military Association throughout the day. Live cannon fire demonstrations were also given.
The overall goal of the event is to help students understand the meaning of “The Fog of War.” Many students called this event the highlight of the year, and the ideal way to top off their studies of the Civil War era.
