GFWC Tooele Civic League hosted a 5k/10k run/walk April 26 at 9 a.m. We were excited to be hosting this event for the third year and even though we were competing with the rain, a triathelon and the Benson Grist Mill Project we were able to pull it off. All proceeds from this walk/run will go to domestic violence victims. What better way to give back during this month of pinwheels for prevention. April is the month for pinwheels to be displayed as a symbol of prevention of child abuse and neglect nationwide. Let’s help to keep our children safe. We hosted 35 runners, with Sharon Jensen, Natalie Barrus, and Melanie Haering participating from Tooele Civic League. Additional support from club members was President Carolyn Nash, President-elect Colleen Fish, 2nd Vice-President Geneal Dart, Anna Twitchell and Penny Stewart. We were also supported by the Domestic Violence Coalition with Kendall Thomas running in the race and Lynne Smith, Penny Stewart, Stacie Dunn, Kaylene Young, Anna Twitchell and Megan LeFranze helping out where they could. We held a raffle and made $106 with around $1,200 made for domestic violence victims. Hundreds of dollars were donated “In Kind” from members of the Tooele Civic League, Transcript Bulletin, Home Depot, Macey’s, Albertson’s, Steadman’s, Go-Fer Foods, Cal Ranch and Real Deals. Dollar donations were given by Energy Solutions, WalMart, Birch Pharmacy, Oqurrh Mtn Eye Care, Tooele Valley Spine Center, Family Practice Group and the Hullinger Family. We give tribute to our community for supporting us.
