Elections: While it seems like elections are a long way off (Nov. 5) the Tooele County Clerk’s office is in full election mode. The military and overseas ballots had to be in the mail by Sept. 20. Vote by mail ballots will go out Oct. 8. If you think you may be out of town on Nov. 5, or would just prefer to vote from home (no snow, no lines), please go to the clerk’s website, click on elections and “Vote by Mail” on the left. Fill out the form and send it to my office. We’ll get the ballot out ASAP.
Board Openings: Tooele County has 34 boards that help run the county on everything from agriculture to taxes. The process for being placed on one of the boards has changed. Rather than reappointing the same willing residents to serve again and again, all openings are now advertised on the county website and on the commission meeting agenda.
If you are interested in serving on any of the boards, please go to the clerk’s website (listed below) and click on the information tab. There you will see a list of county boards, a description of the board and the boards for which applications are being taken. Boards that are accepting applications are shown in a table with the closing date for each application. If you see one you’d like to serve on, please click on the “Board Application” link. Fill out the form and fax, email or mail it to me.
Two new boards have been added recently. The Tooele County Audit Committee and the Tooele County Budget Advisory Board. The purpose of the audit committee is to oversee a proper external review of the audited financial statements, as well as the organization’s financial risk management to include monitoring the internal control environment.
The audit committee also helps the county commissioners understand and interpret the financial statements and audit reports. The purpose of the budget advisory board is to aid the county commission in analyzing and prioritizing the financial resources of the county.
