Tooele Transcript Bulletin – News in Tooele, Utah

December 6, 2016

In last Tuesday’s letter to the editor titled “Restore good will,” Janice Anderson of Grantsville wrote that Tooele County Deputy Assessor Jake Parkinson, in remarks made during a public hearing about valuation errors by the county assessor’s office, indicated no adjustment would be made, either on the current taxes due, or next year’s [tax] bills for properties in a west Erda subdivision. However, in a review of a tape recording from that hearing, Parkinson said, “…We corrected the ones that appealed during the board of equalization process and we are reviewing those and we will fix that for next year on all the properties in that subdivision.” He explained state law doesn’t allow him to grant a refund or tax credit on appeals filed after the Sept. 15 deadline. His comments came during a Nov. 15 public hearing on proposed county tax increases for 2017.
