Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Dorothy Maclovia Maestas, age 82, returned home to our Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 11, 2019, after a short illness. She was born Dec. 21, 1936, in Red River, New Mexico, to Frank and Florida Archuleta. She grew up in a small mining town called Elizabeth Town, New Mexico.
In June of 1974 she remarried to Jose Ralph Maestas. From this marriage she was blessed with four additional children.
Dorothy was a member of St. Marguerite Catholic Church and her faith was the driving force in her life. She worked many different jobs, but what she loved the most was taking care of all the children that adoringly called her “Grandma.”
Dorothy enjoyed taking care of her flower gardens, holiday decorating, crocheting, scrap booking, doing crossword puzzles, and cooking. You could always count on the smell of tortillas, green chili, enchiladas, beans and Texas cake in her home.
Of course, her favorite hobby was playing with her grandchildren. She had the most amazing imagination. She would play, color and draw with her grandchildren in such a way that it would make them truly feel as each individual child was the most precious and loved in the world.
She is survived by her children, Anna Didrickson, Frank Chavez, Evelyn-Jean (Jeff) Jones, Daniel (Arlene) Chavez, Raymond Chavez (Sylvia), Doreen (Herbert) Cardenas, Mark (Melody) Chavez, Evelyn (Lino) Morgas, Michael (Debbie) Maestas, Anthony (Arlene) Maestas, Ralph Maestas; 41 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren (including her “adoptive” grandchildren); and her siblings, Henry (Theresa) Archuleta, Josie (Dan) Gonzales, Birtha (Juan) Rivera, Priscilla Polacio, Francis Miller, Mary-Ann (Tino) Montoya, Lawrence Archuleta; and her special niece Vera Martinez.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Florida, her husband, Jose Ralph; her brothers, Panchito Archuleta and Gerald Archuleta; her baby sister, Mary Archuleta; and grandchildren, Priscilla Morgas and Luciano Royball.
Services will be held at St. Marguerite Catholic Church, 15 S. 7th St., Tooele, Utah.
A viewing, rosary, and eulogy will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2019. The viewing from 6 – 7 p.m.; rosary and eulogy from 7 – 8 p.m.
Funeral mass will be held Thursday, May 16, 2019, at 1 p.m. Friends may call one hour before the funeral.
Interment will follow at the Tooele City Cemetery.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
We love you and we’ll miss you always, Mom!
