Dorthy Shell York returned to heaven Feb. 19. She was born Jan. 25, 1929 in Payson to Carl A. Shell and Florence Daisy Butler Shell. She married Gene York on Aug. 13, 1947 and moved to Tooele in 1948. She worked at the Tooele Army Depot and was a lunch room manager for 27 years for the Tooele County School District. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She volunteered many years at the Mountain West Medical Center and enjoyed helping others. She was an avid bingo player and an active member of the Senior Circle since 2002. She loved to crochet and shared her talents with all who knew her. Her family was her biggest joy. She loved each of them and spent countless hours on the floor playing with the little ones and singing “You Are My Sunshine.” She enjoyed the times when the “whole dam family” gathered together. She is survived by daughters Carolyn (Ronald) Nash and Connie (George) Maegan BurrAnderson, sister Blanch (Sam) Sampson, six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren with one coming in May, four great-great-grandchildren with one coming in August, sisters-in-law Thelma West, Rose (Elton) Draper and Jeanette (Wayne) Parker, brothers-in-law Doug (Norma) York, Dick (Patsy) York, and many wonderful family members and friends. She was preceded in death by husband Gene York, an infant son, mother and father, brother Allen (Joy) Shell, in-laws Lavon (Gladys) York, brothers-in-law Carl York, Jim West and Leroy Heath, and a very dear friend Ab Young. Funeral services will be held Feb. 23 at noon with a two hour viewing prior at the 4th/14th Ward chapel, 200 W. 200 South. Interment will follow at the Tooele City Cemetery.
