Fern Wade Stearns, 77, passed away peacefully on Jan. 17 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 21, 1935 in Richfield to Albert M. Wade and Lydia Cassie (Davis) Wade. She had nine siblings. On June 4, 1955, she married Valentine Edward Stearns and they settled in Lake Point in 1958 where they raised their family. Fern and Valentine later separated, after which she met her companion, Monty Hatch, with whom she spent the remainder of her life. She worked at the Tooele Army Depot for several years as well as owned and managed the S&W Lounge in Lake Point. Her door was always open and her hospitality was unmatched. In her leisurely time, her favorite activity was to hit the slots in Wendover. She loved life and being surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her brother Milo Glen (Mavis) Wade, her seven children: Madge (Tony) Bowlin, Edward “Skeeter” (Kathy) Stearns, Chester (Pam) Stearns, Valorie (Kelly) Johnson, Darla (Richard) Burringo, Jenny (Tom) Vargas, Cindy Anderson, 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings and husband. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 at the Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Road. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services. She will be greatly missed by many. We love you, Grandma.
