Finalists chosen for open JP seat

Three finalists are up for taking over the position of justice of the peace in Grantsville, and the public is welcome to weigh in.

The nominees for the vacancy in the Grantsville Justice Court, left open when Judge Dar Butcher resigned on Aug. 15, are all from Tooele Valley with past criminal justice experience.

Gary K. Dalton, of Grantsville, is the director for the Salt Lake County Criminal Justice Services.

Ronald L. Elton, of Tooele, is the attorney for Rush Valley and Vernon, and is the past attorney for Grantsville City.

Ronald E. Powell, of Stockton, is the Stockton Town Justice Court Judge.

Public comment will be accepted regarding the nominees through Nov. 5, and may be submitted to Melisse Stiglich, administrative office of the courts, at melisses@utcourts.gov.

A final candidate will be selected by Grantsville City Mayor Brent Marshall by early December.
