Getting Back to Work

The fall sports season is approaching, and that means local high school athletes are hard at work getting ready for the tough competition ahead.

Grantsville’s boys golf team was at Oquirrh Hills Golf Course in Tooele on Wednesday morning, with practice having just opened Monday. The baseball teams out at Wendover and Dugway high schools were also allowed to begin practicing on Monday, as Class 1A schools play baseball in the fall.

This coming Monday, practices for the local football, girls soccer and girls tennis teams can begin, and golf tournaments can get under way. The first Class 1A baseball games can be played Tuesday.

Volleyball practices can begin Aug. 6, with the first cross-country meets, tennis matches and soccer games on Aug. 7. Volleyball matches will start Aug. 14, with the first football games Aug. 17 and 18.

The dog days of summer are almost over. It’s almost game time.
