GHS softball looks to bounce back after disappointing ‘21-’22 season

Last year, the Grantsville High Cowboys softball team ended their 2021-22 campaign in rare form. For the first time over the past five seasons, the Cowboys failed to capture the state championship title.

As the second seed in the tournament, Grantsville won the first two games on their home field, but dropped the next two to be eliminated.

“Obviously we were very disappointed and humbled,” head coach Tony Cloward said. “We had a very young, inexperienced team — that is not the case this year.”

Having only lost two senior players from last year, Grantsville is returning seven varsity players to its squad, three of which were named first-team all-state.

“We will be very strong this year, with so many returning quality starters [with] experience and hunger.”

The Cowboys begin their season Thursday, with a road game against the Cedar Reds softball team. Their first home game is March 14, when the Bountiful RedHawks visit Grantsville High.
