GHS softball team explosive in opening games

The Grantsville High School softball team is off to a fantastic start with an 11-1 triumph over Cedar High School on Thursday at Cedar City and two more wins Friday in a tourney in St. George.

On Thursday, the Cowboys poured it on in the top of the fifth inning with eight runs to down the Redmen 11-1. Maddie Johnson smacked a double in the game for the Cowboys.

Grantsville started fast with nine runs in four innings to pound Orem 9-2 on Friday in St. George. Teagan Critchlow knocked a double for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys needed only two innings to wallop Skyline 11-1 with five runs in the first and six runs in the second. Amy Matthews pounded two doubles, Bailey Critchlow doubled, Kolbi Jo Meno tripled and Teagan Critchlow hit a double.

Grantsville has a pair of tough games this week with a contest at Spanish Fork today and the first home game on Friday against Juan Diego.

Grantsville coach Heidi Taylor said she doesn’t have a solidified starting lineup yet, but as the season progresses she’ll figure that out. Right now she said she has several players who can step in at any time and contribute, including several juniors.

“We’re excited about the 27 girls we picked,” Taylor said. “It could be anyone that steps up for us.”
