The Grantsville girls tennis team continued its impressive first year in the new-look Region 13 on Tuesday, picking up a 4-1 win over a talented Judge Memorial squad to remain unbeaten in league action.
Grantsville’s No. 3 singles player, Maci Jackson, had one of the most impressive efforts, rallying from 5-1 down in the first set to beat Judge’s Amy Robison.
“Maci was trailing 5-1 in the 1st set and came back to win that set 7-5 and jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second set and finished out the match for a 6-3 win against a good opponent,” Grantsville coach Stephen Thurgood said of Jackson’s straight-set win, calling it “the match of the day.”
Kayla Johnson beat Kat MacPhail 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Marissa Linares beat Emily Rougelot 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
Paige Peterson and Lexi Colson held on for a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win over Anna Drossos and Olivia Anderson at No. 1 doubles. The Bulldogs’ lone win of the match came at No. 2 doubles, where Kellie McCoy and Ronnie Start beat Brooklyn and Brynlee Butler 6-4, 6-3.
Grantsville played Rowland Hall on Thursday in Salt Lake City in a Region 13 match that was not complete at press time.
