The Grantsville Track team wrapped up its 2023 season with a state champion, four runners up, a sixth place finish for the boys’ team–their highest finish in at least 15 years–and three new school sprinting records.
Senior sprinters Ethan Rainer and Parker Williams finished their final high school track meet with a lot of hardware. Rainer, who plans to play football at Snow College, won the state championship in the 200m race, his final high school race, barely edging Williams 22.32 to 22.41.
Earlier in the day, Williams collected his first silver medal in the 100m race finishing in 11.06 to the winner’s 10.98. Rainer earned fifth in the 100m with a time of 11.20.
Rainer and Williams joined juniors Matthew Harris and Nathan Putter to run the 4×100 relay in 43.78, placing third and earning Williams and Rainer their third podium finish of the day. The 4×100 relay team set a new school record with their time.
With his bronze in the 4×100 relay, Harris also added to his medal collection. In the 110m hurdles, he raced to a silver medal in 15.23, just behind the winner (14.69). Harris broke the first school record of the day with his 100m hurdle time and was part of breaking the second with 4x100m relay teammates.
In the discus, senior Charles Martinson threw 139-03.25 feet to earn second place and a silver medal while senior Nathan Bloomfeldt tossed the shot put 45-09.25 feet for sixth place.
The third school record of the day was broken by freshman Allie Wilkins. She ran a 1:01.1 in the 400m race and grabbed seventh place on the podium.
