We first learned about the Guiding Good Choices parenting program from a handout our son brought home from his fifth grade teacher. The focus for this five-week program, which is offered regularly in Tooele (call Melissa Walker at 843-0392 for more information), was prevention of drug use in the family. We really appreciated the well organized, interesting lessons on setting standards in the family, learning communication and bonding skills, and how to have effective family meetings with pre-adolescents. It was helpful to meet with other families of children in the fifth and sixth grades and share ideas.
We appreciated the thought-provoking lessons our excellent instructors gave. They taught us so much about sharing our vision of our child’s future and hopes we have for them and to include them in setting up family guidelines and consequences. The family activities at the end of each chapter help start implementing the skills we learned at home. The session on controlling anger taught us all more constructive ways to deal with anger. We felt all the sessions were an excellent review for us as parents looking forward to raising healthy teenagers. Thank you Guiding Good Choices for a great job well done!
