Grantsville man arrested for alleged sexual abuse of sister

A Grantsville man who may be emotionally challenged has been charged for allegedly sexually abusing his younger sister.

According to a probable cause statement, Grantsville police received a report earlier this month of possible sodomy of a child. The investigating officer interviewed the 8-year-old girl, who said her older brother had asked her to engage in sexual acts and allow him to touch her inappropriately, according to the statement.

When interviewed by officers, the 24-year-old man said he remembered an incident two summers ago in which he asked his sister to engage in a sexual act, according to the statement.

The officer writing the statement also specified the man appeared to be “emotionally challenged and it is not known to what extent.”

The Transcript-Bulletin is not identifying the man in an effort to protect the identity of the reported victim.

The man was arrested and charged with two counts of sodomy of a child, a first-degree felony. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in 3rd District Court Tuesday.
