Grantsville’s doubles teams and third singles player Tyler Colson helped lead the Cowboys to a 3-2 victory over Riverton Friday in Grantsville.
Colson staged a comeback at third singles to defeat Riverton’s Dallon Maxwell 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-4. Grantsville also needed three sets to win the second doubles match. Jacob May and Dallin Dalton teamed up to defeat Bryce Thurman and Stockton Butterfield 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.
Grantsville picked up a third varsity victory at first doubles with Devin Orgill and Zac Garrard defeating Jeff Nichols and Mark Sorensen 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
Riverton ace Ty Burke defeated Braden Sandberg at first singles 0-6, 0-6 while the Wolverines’ Parker Howell defeated Tanner Elsholz at second singles 1-6, 3-6.
The Cowboys’ junior varsity squad also prevailed 3-2 against Riverton’s JV. Grantsville’s Lane Sutton and Hunter Anderson picked up victories in the top two JV singles matches. Sutton defeated Jacob Bear 8-4 at first singles and Anderson downed Ty Bianuci at second singles 9-7. Tyler Knight battled hard for the Cowboys at JV third singles, but lost the match 6-8.
Bridger Collings and Nathan Krogh had a tough time at JV first doubles losing 2-8 to Bronson Severson and Ryan Thornock. Cody Millward and Riley Ernst prevailed for the Cowboys at JV second doubles with an 8-6 triumph over Jeff Lewis and Jeremy Pike.
Sutton and Skyler Snarr also picked up an 8-2 victory in exhibition doubles competition. Grantsville plays at Bear River today and will compete in a tournament in Logan on Saturday.
