Spring sports are some of the most enjoyable events to partake in, for both athletes and spectators alike. Whether it’s the crack of the bat during a baseball or softball game, the whoosh of a tennis racket or golf club, or merely basking in the sun from the stands, outdoor sports this time of year are hard to beat.
As the Transcript’s lone sports reporter, it is one of my biggest regrets that I am unable to regularly cover each sport for all three local high schools and am oftentimes limited to running scores in my weekly sports wrap. With 18 teams across three schools and five sports, there are only so many games I can attend and, even with the contributing writers who do add to our reporting, there are still many games that are missed.
For those who have reached out to our newspaper with concerns over a lack of coverage for particular teams or sports, I hear you and I assure you that it is my intention to elevate as many schools and athletes with as equitable coverage as I can provide.
With all of the great talent this county has to offer in the way of high school sports, the hard-working students deserve every inch of copy I am able to devote to them. This is why I am inviting readers to submit game photos from each Tooele, Stansbury and Grantsville game during the season.
Being readers of the community’s newspaper of record, it is only fitting that the members of the community get an opportunity to show off the students you watch day in and day out. These athletes are your children, your grandchildren and your neighbors — they deserve to be recognized for the hard work they put in on and off the field.
In addition to game photos, feel free to reach out with any story ideas regarding the athletes in your lives and I will take time over the summer to feature as many of those outstanding players in the paper as I can.
Please submit high-resolution photos to sports.transcript@gmail.com. Along with the photos, be sure to include captions with the photographer’s name, player names and any other pertinent information from the game.
Thank you all for your readership and I look forward to bolstering the sports coverage and showcasing the fine athletes we have in the county!
