James S. Cooley Sr., 77, of Corvallis, Mont., passed away Nov. 29 at St. Patrick’s Hospital from complications of respiratory failure due to pulmonary fibrosis. He was born Sept. 21, 1935 in Wallace, Idaho. Jim was a senior chief in the United States Navy and served 22 and a half years of active service. He married Roberta Price on June 21, 1957 in North Carolina. Their marriage was later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 18, 1976. After retiring in 1974, Jim and family moved to Corvallis. He served in various callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jim was preceded in death by his parents John and Beth Cooley, sister Nettie Brown and twin brothers Donald and Douglas. Jim is survived by the love of his life, Roberta “Bert,” children Diana (Wes) Matson, Jim Jr. (Susie) and Lee Ann (Ron), eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jim loved to fish, tie his own flies, golf and “shoot the breeze” with his friend Bob and anyone else who would listen. A viewing will be held on Dec. 5 from 10 to 10:50 a.m. in the Relief Society room of the Corvallis Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at the Corvallis Cemetery.
