Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Judy Lucille Barnett passed away peacefully in her home in Tooele on Sept. 11 at the age of 76. She was born June 8, 1937 in Kenton, Okla., the youngest daughter of the late Frank and Bonnie Wiggins. She arrived in Tooele County with her family in 1951 and remained there until her passing. She attended Tooele High School. She married the late Victor Barnett in 1955. They lived in Rush Valley for many years before moving to the “big city” of Tooele in the early 1980s. Vic and Judy enjoyed a long and happy union until his passing in 1999, and were parents to three children, Kathy (Shel) Slaughter, of Gloucester, Va., Steve (Sue) Barnett, of Salt Lake City, and Richard (Kat) Barnett, of Frederick, Md. Judy retired from a long federal service career at Dugway Proving Ground, where she was a fixture in the civilian personnel office. She was beloved by her colleagues for her quick humor and good natured attitude. Judy loved to read. She instilled a love of reading in her children from an early age. Her favorites were The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and anything having to do with Native Americans. She also enjoyed watching classic movies, and could recite dialogue from “Gone With The Wind” from memory. She was a great cook, and her homemade chili was legendary. Judy is survived by her three children, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, her sister Jane Beck and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers Tom and Eddie Wiggins, and sister Opal Richardson. A small graveside service will be held on Monday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. at Tooele City Cemetery.
