Kane County couple faces sex abuse charges in Tooele County

A Kane County couple faces various felony charges for alleged sexual abuse of children in Tooele and Kane counties.

Gwendolyn Ames, 36, is charged with two counts of first-degree sodomy of a child, first-degree aggravated sexual abuse of a child and three counts of third-degree dealing in materials harmful to a minor, all felonies. She is also charged with three counts of lewdness involving a child, a misdemeanor.

Glen Ames, 39, faces 10 charges of first-degree sodomy of a child, two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual abuse of a child and three counts of third-degree dealing in materials harmful to a minor, all felonies. He also faces three counts of lewdness involving a child, a misdemeanor.

The charges are related to alleged repeated abuse involving three children, two female and one male. According to a Tooele City Police Department report, the Ames lived in Tooele City between 2006 and June 2014.

In reports from the Kane County Sheriff’s office and Kanab City Police Department, the Ames are accused of various transgressions, including molestation, forcing the children to watch pornography and performing oral sex.

In an interview with police, Gwendolyn Ames admits to performing oral sex twice on one of the children and said she was aware of the other abuse, but did nothing to report or prevent it.

Gwendolyn Ames had her first appearance in 3rd District Court on Monday morning. A roll call hearing is scheduled for April 21.

A single charge of first-degree child abuse, a felony, was dismissed in Sixth District Court for Gwendolyn Ames on March 12.

Glen Ames did not appear at his scheduled initial appearance because he is still being held in the Kane County Jail. He will not be transported from custody in Kane County until his case there has been resolved.

Glen Ames pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree sexual abuse of a child, first-degree forcible sodomy of a child, second-degree forcible sexual abuse and misdemeanor child abuse or neglect on Jan. 8 in 6th District Court.

Glen Ames is held in Kane County Jail on $250,000 cash bond. Gwedolyn Ames is being held in the Tooele County Detention Center on $100,000 bail.
