For the last 10 years I have been following Tooele High School academics and sports because my children attend the schools in Tooele. Yes, I have been frustrated, shocked, excited, entertained and have applauded the Tooele school system for its overall efficiency. This past basketball season has proven once again, never write off anyone because you’re not impressed with them.
Fence-sitters take note: You have just seen a group of young basketball players with a 5-5 season; a good coaching staff led by a man who was recently diagnosed with lung cancer; a fan base that was supportive to the end; a school band that created a winning atmosphere; and a majestic group of young women that presented a suggestive tone of fire flames during the half-time show. The combination of these is now obvious.
Wasatch High School, by all means in another environment, would have won that championship game. But not that day. Almost always, true champions rise up from overwhelming adversities.
Kudos to you Tooele High School. Good luck Coach Alverson and your family. You have a great team supporting you.
