Laura was born in Provo, Utah, July 20, 1975, to Laurie Anderson Young and Morris Don Young. She was the oldest of their eight children.
She attended Tooele High 1990–1992 and graduated from Grantsville High in 1993. She pursued higher education at Utah State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social work. She worked in a variety of capacities throughout the years; with many of her jobs working with troubled youth, women and mothers at risk and most recently at NATSU working with Native American youth. She loved learning and was continuing to further her education.
Laura met Justin Garrard in 2008. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on Oct. 25, 2008. They built their home together in Lake Point, Utah. They were blessed with an amazing son Aiden Justin Garrard on Aug. 21, 2009.
Laura was a beautiful daughter of her Heavenly Father. She experienced some heavy medical and mental health challenges throughout her life. She was always gracious to accept help and strived to overcome these challenges. She enjoyed reading, working in her flower garden, playing games where she loved being on the same team as her husband Justin. She also enjoyed decorating their home and watching movies. Her greatest joy came from being Aiden’s mom and Justin’s best friend. She loved both of them dearly; they were her whole world. Even though she had sleep challenges she was still willing to try camping, floating the river and doing outdoor activities with her family. She didn’t particularly enjoy the outdoors but enjoyed seeing Aiden and Justin thrive there. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was recently called to serve in the Primary with Justin.
She is survived by her husband Justin and son Aiden of Lake Point, Utah; her mother Laurie Young Perkins (David); siblings Mandy Jarvis (Randall), Crystal Wallace (Scott), Heidi Alger (Matthew), Mark Young (Marie), Karl Young (Lindsay) Philip (April) and Cameron Young (Tom); in-laws Leonard and Colleen Garrard, Jill Pearson (Kirk), Jana Winn (Rodney), and Jodi (Jason) Brunson; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Morris Don Young.
Funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at the Lake Point Chapel, 1366 E. Canyon Rd. A viewing will be held that morning from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. with the funeral at 11 am. Interment will be at the Lake Point cemetery.
