Lila-Hammond-BellOur loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, Lila Hammond Bell, passed away Sunday April 17, after a short battle with pneumonia.

She was born July 14, 1917, in Grantsville, Utah, to Thomas Hammond and Elsie May Brim. She graduated from Grantsville High School in 1934.

In October 1937, she married Robert Orr Bell, who preceded her in death in March of 1976. Together they raised four children, two girls and two boys.

She worked at Tooele Army Depot and was know as “Rosie the Riveter.” Later she was a cook at the Tooele High School lunch room for 26 years. She then retired at the age of 65.

Mom was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and held several positions. She was a counselor in the Relief Society and enjoyed helping others.

She did ladies hair at our kitchen table for many years, which made her very happy. She is survived by her three children, Keith (Billie) Bell of Grantsville, Raymond (Debbie) Bell of West Jordan and Eileen (Les) Volberg of Grantsville; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; her loving extra daughter Sharon Howell; many nieces and nephews and loving friends. Our Mom spread smiles and laughter to everyone she met.

Services will be held on Thursday April 21, at 11 a.m. with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the 7th Ward Chapel, 1025 W. Utah Ave in Tooele. There will also be a viewing Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tate Mortuary in Tooele. Burial will be in the Grantsville City Cemetery.
