A Tooele man has been arrested and charged for allegedly raping the woman carrying his unborn child.
According to a probable cause statement, on April 17, Austin Caldwell, 33, went into the bedroom of his roommate, who is pregnant with his child, and told her he wanted to have sex but she told him no.
Caldwell allegedly began to have sex with her anyway, according to the statement, despite her constant protests.
He afterwards went to work and reportedly sent her a text apologizing for his actions, according to the statement, and told officers that he had forced sex with the woman against her wishes.
Caldwell was charged Wednesday with rape, a first-degree felony, and made his first appearance in 3rd District Court Monday.
In addition to the rape charge, Caldwell was on probation for a drug charge in Salt Lake County from 2013. That probation was revoked following Caldwell’s arrest.
