Dave and Helen Stephens of Florence, S.C., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on the Hawaiian Island of Maui.
The couple was married Sept. 2, 1961 in Las Vegas, Nev., with Renee Mueller Newitt serving as matron of honor, Joan Saunders as attendant and Robert Swan serving as best man. A month following their marriage Dave was called to active duty for a year serving during the Berlin Wall crisis.
The couple has two daughters; their oldest daughter Tracy and her husband Mons Lyssand and their children Chelsea and Pytten of Bergen, Norway. Chelsea, a third-year student at U of Bergen is majoring in bio engineering and Pytten, a senior in high school is studying foreign languages and plays soccer for Nore-Neset Soccer Club.
Their youngest daughter Jill Simmons and her two daughters Cassie and Taylor reside in North Charleston, S.C. Cassie is a senior at Francis Marion University with a major in psychiatry, Taylor a senior in high school was accepted at the USC-Aiken with a full soccer scholarship in 201.
Mrs. Stephens, formerly Helen Jensen from Salt Lake City, enjoys cooking, entertaining, gardening, decorating, golfing and her part time job (24 years) at Fisher Jewelers, but her biggest pleasure are her four “Gremlins” AKA grandchildren.
Dave is from Tooele retired after 43 years with Perfection Hy-Test, a Berkshire Hathaway Co., as their senior vice president. They enjoyed living in six states across the country during his tenure; now he can be found on the golf course, fishing, gardening, cooking and entertaining and his biggest enjoyment are his “Gremlins.” They have lived in Florence for 33 years.
