Two Tooele County high school students were crowned Wednesday during the seventh annual Mr. and Miss Amazing Pageant at Tooele High School.
Cameron Gunderson, 23, a student at the Community Learning Center, was crowned Mr. Amazing, and Brooke Daley, 17, a junior at Tooele High School, was crowned Miss Amazing.
The pageant, which was THS’s special education teacher Rebecca Ford’s brainchild, began when Ford was talking to peer tutors about how nice it would be to hold a pageant for people with disabilities.
Since then, the community has rallied around the students to support the pageant as a fundraiser for special education programs and as a confidence builder for Tooele County residents with disabilities who are between the ages of 14 and 28. Students from Grantsville, Tooele and Stansbury High Schools participate each year, along with a few members from the community.
The other 15 contestants this year were David Akers, Nathan Draper, Travis Graves, Teri Wood, Brock Lawrence, Craig Draper, Ellie Jensen, Melanie Roundy, Devrie Christiansen, Breanne Golliet, Ashley Mohler, Lindsay Rauch, Amber Bailey, Maddie Beacham and Teylor Cornett.
