New voter ID cards in the mail include county council districts

Phew! One election down, two to go. Just a quick note regarding elections: we have sent new voter registration cards out to all active registered voters. They should be arriving in your mailbox next week.

Why new voter ID cards when they can’t really be used for proving ID? Besides the fact that it’s a law, with the addition of the new County Council Districts, we wanted everyone to be aware of which district they are in. Along with telling you which precinct you’re in, congressional district, etc., there will be a new entry, County Council District.

Just as a reminder, in 2018 voters in Tooele County voted to change our form of county government. We will go from three full-time commissioners to five part-time County Council Districts. The county precincts were divided into five equal districts (within 10% variation). To see a copy of the map and a breakdown of the districts by precinct, please go to the Council Districts link on the Tooele County Clerk’s home page at

We are all talking about the Coronavirus. On Wednesday the Tooele County Clerk’s office started to operate on a by-appointment only schedule. We are trying to ensure that our customers and staff are safe and healthy in the new COVID-19 environment. Please call 435-843-3155 to make an appointment.

If you are coming in for passports, it is critical to have everything ready and complete when you arrive for your appointment, which includes bringing a check or money order. That is the required payment method for a passport. If you don’t have all the necessary documents (applications, in-state ID, or out-of-state ID and secondary ID, all parties present, original birth certificates) then you will be asked to reschedule your appointment.

For marriage licenses, both parties must be present with ID. For all other services, please call us at 435-843-3140. We’ll be happy to answer any questions. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we try to provide service and keep everyone appropriately safe.

For our elderly, Tooele County Aging Services is providing free meal pick-up at the Tooele and Grantsville Senior Centers, Monday-Thursday 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., and Friday 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. This is a free, no appointment needed service drive thru! For questions call 435-843-3103.

Tenille Tingey is the Chief Deputy Clerk for Tooele County.
