Norma was born in Tooele, Utah, on June 18, 1918, to Joseph Earl Tate and Bertha Shields Tate. She graduated from Tooele High School and attended Brigham Young University. She married her sweetheart, Clyde Allen, in New York City on April 3, 1941, and was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. She was a devoted member of the LDS Church and held positions in the Primary and Relief Society.
During WWII she worked supporting the war effort in New York while supporting Clyde who was serving our country in the US Navy.
Norma was very athletic and loved baseball and played with the Utah Copperettes after high school. She worked alongside Clyde in the family finance and insurance business for many years.
Norma was devoted to her family and was never happier than when she was with them. Norma and Clyde celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2006, which was attended by their entire family. She had a great sense of humor and was loved by all who knew her.
Norma is survived by her two sons, C. Jess Allen II (Gloria) of Burbank, California, and David E. Allen of Tooele, Utah. She is also survived by her grandchildren: D. Eric Allen (Desirae) of South Jordan, Utah; Jason Bluth of Hillsboro, Oregon; Julie Zentner (Mark) of Corona, California; Megan Whieldon (Bo) of Upland, California; Katie Shepherd (Aaron) of Brigham City, Utah; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Norma was preceded in passing by Clyde in 2007, her brother LaVar Tate, and her sister Maxine Grimm.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 5 at 1 p.m. at the Tooele LDS South Stake Center, 1025 Southwest Drive, in Tooele, Utah. A viewing will be held from 12 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Tooele City Cemetery.
