Family activities and contests planned for 2021 Tooele County Summer Nights

Mark your calendar now. Join USU Extension and Tooele County 4H to celebrate the 4H Showcase. We have many activities and contests for kids and families. 4H Showcase will be open Thursday and Friday, Aug. 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m and Saturday, Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to  4 p.m. at the Deseret Peak Convention Center. Come see all the 4H projects made throughout the year. 

Tooele County Summer Nights will replace what was known in the past as the Tooele County Fair. The event will be smaller scale with 4H Showcase, Junior Livestock Show, Demolition Derby, and Broncs and Bulls only. Visit tooelefair.com for more information.

Tuesday, Aug. 2 

Strong Kid Contest 

Kids be prepared to show your strong side but your silly side will come out too! 

Sign up 6 to 6:30 p.m.; competition 6:45 p.m., for ages 8-17.

Events may include: shot put, target “shooting,” healthy eating contest.

Deseret Peak Complex on grass by outdoor area and big tree.

Thursday, Aug. 5, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Kids Rocket Contest 

Open to children 8 years old and older. All supplies will be provided. Starts at noon and ends by 2 p.m. Located on the grass by outdoor arena and big tree.

Family Sidewalk Chalk Contest

Family activity, an adult must be involved. Pick up chalk and supplies provided for free between 1 and 6 p.m. Artwork must be completed by 6:30 p.m. for judging. Open to the public at 7 p.m. with free ice cream. Limited to 10 families. Must preregister by July 30 to nickole.brown@usu.edu or 435-277-2409. Check in at 4H booth inside convention center.

Make & Take 

Located in the 4H Showcase area within the convention center.

Mini Catapults: Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“I Love Me” Boards: Between 3 and 6 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 6, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Kids Ice Cream Making Contest 

Beginning at 1 p.m. Which way makes ice cream better and faster? Ice cream ball? Ice cream in a bag? Let’s find out! Teams of two will work together. Kids must be 8 years and older, but little brothers and sisters can help unofficially. All ingredients provided. Please preregister by Wednesday, Aug. 4 to Darlene 435-840-4404. Contest will be on the grass near outdoor arena and large tree. Prizes plus ice cream! 

Family Giant Bubble Contest 

Come test your bubble making abilities at 6 p.m. Each family will receive all supplies for making giant bubbles. Limit 15 families. Please preregister by Wednesday, Aug. 4 to Darlene 435-840-4404. Contest will be on the grass near outdoor arena and large tree.

String Cheese Skater Dude: Between 11 a.m and 2 p.m.

Color a Tile Coaster: Between 3 and 6 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 7, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. 

Pet Show 

Do you have a really great pet? Bring it to the pet show Saturday, Aug. 7. Registration starts at  10:30 a.m. and the show starts at 11 a.m. on outdoor grass area by the large tree. Bragging rights! Prizes too! You don’t have to be in 4-H to be in this show. Everyone, any age or type of pet, in the county is welcome! Just be sure your pet won’t get away! Dress your pet in a fun costume for a fun extra prize. 

Kids Cookie Contest 

Bake your cookies at home and bring four of them Saturday, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. in the foyer of the Deseret Peak Convention Center. Please bring recipe. Kids must be 5 or older. Age groups will be 5-7; 8-14; 15 and older. Be prepared to answer a few questions from the judges. Register by texting Darlene at 435-840-4404 by 7 p.m. , Thursday, Aug. 5. Prizes for all participants. Co-sponsored by Sherry’s Sweets.

Color Your Own Puzzle: Between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Duct Tape Notebooks: Between 1 and 4 p.m.
