On Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020, after battling health issues for many long years, Michael Paul Trappett Leary, our beloved husband, father, son and brother passed away at his residence in Tooele, Utah. As a family we are grateful for the man that he was and the lessons he taught us throughout the years. We will miss the good things about him, but we are grateful he is no longer suffering or in pain from the horrible illnesses that so severely impacted his body, spirit and mind.
Michael was born April 1, 1969, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Verna L. Hancock and David S. Leary. Verna and David divorced when he was a child. Michael was later adopted and raised by his stepfather, Bud L. Trappett.
Michael grew up in Bingham County, Idaho, raising livestock and farming. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and riding horses. He loved the outdoors and being in wide open spaces. He loved all of God’s creations and throughout his life he cherished, took care of and respected them. There wasn’t an animal Michael didn’t love and didn’t have in his house at one time or another.
Michael moved from Idaho to Cache Valley, Utah, in 1986. He graduated from Logan High School in 1987. He met Donilyn Lemon Leary in 1988 while working at Burger King in Logan, Utah. He would always say meeting Donilyn was the best prize in any meal. Michael and Donilyn were married Feb. 17, 1989, in the Logan LDS temple. Together they have three children, Alleissa A. Leary, Mikylee D. Leary and Brott M. Leary.
Michael was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved to help others and serve where he could. As a young man, Michael was called to serve an LDS mission in Munich, Germany. A back injury prevented him from serving in Germany, but he served the Lord in the Logan temple for the remainder of his mission. He has also held many callings throughout his life.
Michael is survived by his wife Donilyn; his children Alessia Holder (Cody Holder), Mikylee Leary, and Brott Leary (Tiffany Moulton); his mother Verna Trappett of Smithfield; his father David S. Leary of Nampa, Idaho; and siblings Jennie L. Dowdle (Fred Dowdle), James Trappett (Brooke Trappett), Leon Trappett (Kristina Trappett), John Trappett (Leia Trappett), and Peggy.
As a family we are devastated by his passing but are grateful he is free from his illnesses, pain and in a better place not suffering anymore.
A visitation will be held at Tate Mortuary in Tooele, Utah, Saturday, Dec. 12, from 11 a.m. to noon. A family memorial service will be at noon. In place of flowers or other gifts, the family prefers that donations be made to a memorial account. The family has set up an account at America First Credit Union under the name “Memorial for Michael.” Also a GoFundMe at this the web site: gf.me/u/zatv2s has been set up. We would also like friends and family to send memories of Michael and pictures they have to firstname.lastname@example.org which will later be made into a book for the family.
