Series to race under the lights in Utah for the first time

The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series has become a staple of Utah Motorsports Campus’ annual slate of exciting racing events, serving as one of the most popular weekends on the calendar.

This weekend promises to be no different from an excitement standpoint — but there is a twist this time around. The LOORS competitors will take to the Off Road Short Course on Friday and Saturday, but for the first time, they’ll be competing under the lights as the the feature races begin at 7 p.m. on both nights.

“Everybody loves the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series,” UMC General Manager Willem Geyer said in a press release. “This year, under the lights, the racing should be fantastic. We’re certainly looking forward to it, and we’re sure our great fans will enjoy the series more than ever.”

Racers will compete in nine classes, according to a UMC press release. There will be everything from off-road karts and buggies in the kids’ classes to the 900-horsepower vehicles in the Pro 2 and Pro 4 competitions. Having the action take place at night will enable fans to see things they wouldn’t ordinarily notice — namely, glowing brake rotors and flying sparks.

The kids’ classes will take to the track beginning at 4:30 p.m. both days. Opening ceremonies for the feature races will begin at 7 p.m. This weekend represents the seventh and eighth rounds of the 12-race season series.

The UMC gates will open at 1 p.m. both days, with an open paddock allowing for fans to interact with the drivers, their teams and their race vehicles. Drivers will sign autographs at 4 p.m. both days.

Tickets are available at the track’s website,, or at the track on the day of the event. Kids age 12 and under will be admitted for free. For more information, visit the website or call (435) 277-8000.
