I was born on Feb 23, 1933, in Evanston, Wyo., to Robert M. and Marion E. Skyles. I attended Evanston High School where I received many athletic awards. I attended the University of Wyoming and Utah State University on athletic scholarships. In 1953 I was drafted into the Army and served as a Medic in the 1st Medical Company of the 1st Armored Division from 1953-1955. After returning from the Army I married Patricia L. Stahley on January 1, 1956, and have been married for 57 years. I have three children, Lee, Mindy and Kristy. I graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in 1959 and a Master’s of Science Degree in 1961. My career in education has spanned 38 wonderful and exciting years. It started as a teacher at the Utah State Industrial School, Grantsville High School, Principal of both Dugway and Tooele High Schools, Director of Secondary Education, Assistant Superintendent and wrapping up as Superintendent of Tooele County School District. During this tenure I also served on the Utah High School Activities Association Board of Directors, Vice President and President Elect for several years. After retirement Pat and I purchased a home in Evanston, Wyo., where I served as a city councilman and on the Board of Directors of several different boards.
Life has been a grand experience and I have been most fortunate. I had a family, good friends, and good health. Family is the most important part of my life and I will keep a spot on the sunny side of the hill for each of them. The fishing trips will never be forgotten as well as the coffee clatch and National Rodeo Finals with all my friends.
I want to thank my wife and family for their loving care and the wonderful staff of Pine Mountain Health and Hospice, Barbara and Cherylynn.
I am survived by my wife Pat; three children, son Lee Skyles, daughters Mindy Skyles and Kristy (Victor) Hammond; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy and Dusty (Lindsay) Watkins, Mike Yei, Ralph Christensen, Katie and Bailey Jones, Lee Jr., P.J. and Holli Skyles, Erin and Briana Hammond; Three Great-Grandchildren, Paige & Ace Watkins and Bella Skyles.
Per my request cremation and graveside services will be held on November 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Evanston Cemetery, 526 Country Road, Evanston, Wyo.
Dad, thanks for the last lesson you taught us: Forgiveness, Humility and Love.
