I belong to the gender against which, Democrats claim, Republicans are waging a war. The “war on women” sound bite wears thin because it implies the Democratic Party supports values important to women like me.
I beg to differ.
For instance, I believe that our free enterprise, hard work and ingenuity must be rewarded, not taxed to the rafters. Democrats advocate forced redistribution of wealth and promote class warfare.
I believe that people who receive government welfare money should be held accountable for any inappropriate expenditures. Democrats don’t want welfare recipients to submit to random drug testing. They also don’t want women who receive child support to have to submit to drug testing if it’s demanded and paid for by their ex-partner.
I believe that, through our Armed Forces, we have the opportunity and obligation to help protect democratic freedoms around the world. Democrats want to turn over this obligation and role to the United Nations. Democrats are reluctant to use force against governments who perform acts of aggression against their people and threaten democratic freedoms.
I believe that states must be able to govern themselves and that the role of the federal government must be limited. Democrats want to impose mandatory health care, including which services should be covered by insurance companies. They enact failed policies that require the standardization of educational programs, regardless of a state’s unique needs and resources.
I believe that more gun laws and weapon bans will not deter criminals. Democrats want to impose stronger gun restrictions, which take away law-abiding citizens’ ability to protect themselves. They ensure that criminals, who will obviously not relinquish their weapons, can be the only armed people on the streets.
I believe that diversity strengthens America, but we must uphold immigration laws. Democrats pander to the minority vote by allowing illegal immigrants to receive programs and benefits that should rightly be reserved for our legal residents.
I believe that anyone, regardless of race and skin color, can be successful on their own right. Under the guise of “equal opportunity,” Democrats are saying that minorities cannot be successful unless they get extra help and preferential treatment.
I believe that the institution of marriage must be protected and that our nation must return to family values. Democrats want to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act.
Last but not least, I believe in protecting the life of an unborn child and that abortion should only be resorted to in cases of rape, incest, or threat to a mother’s health. Thus, I’m all for programs that may help dissuade women from abortion. Democrats not only want abortion to be made more widely available, they want medical providers, regardless of their personal beliefs on abortion, to provide it. They also want the government to keep funding women’s health programs that provide abortion, like Planned Parenthood.
The Republican Party, on the other hand, supports the beliefs I mentioned above.
As I looked around my Republican neighborhood caucus in March, it was gratifying to see women who share these beliefs and who want a return to values that strengthen family, personal responsibility and individual character — values that this great nation was founded upon.
In a nutshell, that’s why a woman like me belongs to the Republican Party.
