Robert (Bob) Taron was born Dec. 26, 1942 in Kinsey, Mont., to Arthur and Bertha (Guab) Taron. He passed away April 26 at his home in Pine Canyon. Bob married his sweetheart, Alice Marie McPhie, on Nov. 27, 1964. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on Feb. 25, 1976. They were blessed with three children. He served in the Army during Vietnam. He was a union boilermaker (welder) and skilled fabricator and earned numerous certifications. He started welding at a young age, helping his dad with the family business. He worked at the Tooele Army Depot until he retired. He was a loving and caring man who loved spending time with his family. To all his grandchildren he was known as the bubblegum and rock grandpa. He loved camping, rock hunting and making Dutch oven dinners with his family. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, in-laws Grace and Dan McPhie, brother Gerald (Sonny) Taron, sister Barbara Nevins, son-in-law Guy Shields and one grandchild. He is survived by daughter Holly Shields, sons Troy (Kim) Taron and Shaun (Lori) Taron, grandchildren Garrit, Danielle, Amber, Wren, Adam, Ashley, Daniel, Allie and Aubrey, 12 great-grandchildren, sisters Deloris (Dee), Ellen, Millie, Violet, Rosemary and Lorraine (Rani), brothers-in-law John (Don), Robert (Bob) McPhie and Ernie Stapley, and sisters-in-law Betty Tanner and Merla Jensen. Funeral services will be May 1 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Church in Pine Canyon, 2032 Churchwood Road. Visitations will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main St. in Tooele, and again at the church the hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Tooele City Cemetery with military honors accorded by VFW and US Army.
