Salt Lake man jailed for false fire alarm

A Salt Lake man was arrested Sunday after pulling a hotel fire alarm and urinating in a stairwell during the ensuing evacuation.

According to a press release from the West Wendover Police Department, Stephen Tarabetz, 33, of Salt Lake City, was displeased with the hotel’s service and allegedly pulled the alarm at about 2:15 a.m. As patrons of the hotel evacuated, Tarabetz allegedly urinated in a stairwell that some people were trying to descend.

During the evacuation, an elderly woman who was staying at the hotel fell. No information was available at press time if the woman was injured or how seriously.

Tarabetz was arrested and booked into the Elko County Jail on charges of false fire alarm and public urination.
