Scholarships available for students

Tooele High School scholarships include:

• AXA Achievement Community Scholarship (12th graders)

Applicants should have outstanding achievement in school, community, or work activities and be recommended by an unrelated adult professional who can attest to the student’s achievement.

Deadline: Feb. 18, 2005

• USA Today All-USA Academic Team (12th graders) Applicants must write an essay describing an original academic, artistic or leadership endeavor, fill out an application and include letters of recommendation. Winners can receive $2,500 cash awards.

Deadline: Feb. 22, 2005

• Women’s Italian American Civic League (12th graders)

Applicant must be of recent Italian ancestry and write an essay describing their Italian ancestry and how it has influenced their life. Academic record, test scores and extracurricular activities also considered.

Deadline: Feb. 28, 2005

• U.S. Military Summer Leaders Seminar (11th graders)

Leadership seminars will be held in June at West Point. Applicants must be in top 5% of their class, taking college prep classes, have good PSAT scores and have demonstrated leadership

Deadline: March 1, 2005

• U of U Larry H. Miller Scholarship (12th graders)

Applicants should be accepted to the U of U, from under-represented ethnic backgrounds and demonstrate financial need or be first generation college students. Applicants should fill out an application and submit a personal statement. This award is for the cost of tuition, fees, books and campus room and board.

Deadline: March 1, 2005

• Westminster College Award for Exemplary Achievement (12th graders)

Applicants should have achieved excellence in any activity of significance like community service, the arts, athletics or writing. The award is $15,000. The application should include an essay, resume and letters of recommendation.

• Flying J Scholarship Program (12th graders)

Applicants must have at least a 3.0 gpa and will be considered based on academic performance, personal data, an outside appraisal and financial need. The award is $2,000.

Deadline: March 1, 2005

• U of U ACCESS Program for Women in Science and Mathematics

The ACCESS Program supports women attending the U of U pursuing degrees in Math or Science. The award is $3,500 and the opportunity to work in a research lab.

Deadline: March 2, 2005

• Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (12th graders)

Applicants will be judged based on academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service and milk experience. Applications are available at www.whymilk.com

Deadline: March 4, 2005

• Career & Technical Education Scholarships (12th graders)

Applicants should be planning to pursue CTE Training after high school to obtain either an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. Awards are for one year tuition. One third of applicants receive scholarships.

Deadline: March 7, 2005

• Wells Fargo’s College STEPS Program (12th graders)

• U. S. Bank Internet Scholarship Program (12th graders)

Tuition prizes of $1,000 given to thirty students chosen through a random drawing. Register at usbank.com/studentbanking Deadline: Through Feb.

• Zions Bank 2005 Founders Scholarship (12th graders)

Zions Bank will award 12 fouryear, full-tuition scholarships. Applicants should have at least a 3.0 gpa, apply to a college in Utah, have a letter of recommendation and write a letter explaining why they should be considered for the scholarship.
