SHS boys third at Wasatch Invitational

Simper, Seeley finish in top-10 overall 

The Stansbury boys cross country team is starting to round into form with just a few weeks remaining in the regular season, and the Region 10 and Class 4A championship meets drawing ever closer.

The Stallions finished third in their race at the prestigious Wasatch Cross Country Invitational at Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway on Friday, coming in as the top Class 4A team in the field that also included Ridgeline, Sky View and Uintah. Grantsville, the only Class 3A team out of 16 squads in the Varsity Section 1 race, finished 14th.

Stansbury’s Jacob Simper finished fifth in 16 minutes, 37.2 seconds, leading a strong contingent of 10 Stallions. Tyler Seeley was eighth in 16:52.3. Oliver Sill was 16th in 17:29.6, Noah Hales was 22nd in 17:48.1 and Sam Russell was 28th in 17:56.6 to give Stansbury a team score of 77 points, 12 points behind second-place Mountain View and 30 behind first-place Westlake. Lanse Larsen (48th, 18:32.7), Wyatt Gleed (50th, 18:35.8), Charlie Cook (54th, 18:36.9), Elias Nelson (65th, 18:56.7) and Kaemon Dix (103rd, 19:59.8) also competed for Stansbury, which was 31 points better than fourth-place Park City.

Grantsville finished with 393 points, three points ahead of Uintah and 29 behind East. Connor Paxman was the Cowboys’ top finisher, crossing the line 73rd in 19:17.3. John Ussing was 84th in 19:36.3, Zack Hale was 87th in 19:38.4, Blake Bunderson was 104th in 20:02.3 and Evan Thomas was 113th in 20:19.4. James Limburg (116th, 20:24.5), David Cowdell (117th, 20:24.9), Brock Merrill (126th, 20:44.6), Caleb Keller (139th, 21:42.1) and Ross Richardson (144th, 23:21.0) were Grantsville’s other runners.

Stansbury’s girls were eighth in their race, with Grantsville 14th. Stansbury’s effort was led by Erin Allen, was was 33rd in 21:33.6. Teammate Eliza Beazer was 34th in 21:46.3, with Tatelyn Larsen (40th, 22:00.7), Elena Allen (42nd, 22:04.3) and Brooke Call (45th, 22:13.4) rounding out the scoring. Other Stallions in the field included Nicole Payne (47th, 22:20.7), Dazren Osborn (54th, 22:57.7), Jessica Beazer (63rd, 23:27.0) and Brooke Powelson (85th, 24:18.8).

Ellie Lowery led Grantsville with a 59th-place finish in 23:12.6. Bethany Swallom was 92nd in 24:39.8. Erin Petersen (106th, 25:53.3), Patience Garcia (108th, 25:57.4) and Reagan Wexels (109th, 26:05.1) were the Cowboys’ other scoring runners. Acelyn Fuentes (123rd, 28:06.4), Jessica Adams (125th, 28:45.6), Aliyah Fuentes (129th, 29:33.1) and Jade Garcia (130th, 29:56.3) also took part in the event for Grantsville.

Grantsville will compete at a Region 13 meet Wednesday at Scera Park in Orem, while Stansbury will join Tooele and the rest of Region 10 for a meet at Dinosaur Park in Ogden.
