Sickening debate rhetoric

We are writing to urge Tooele County citizens to vote for Evan McMullin (evanmcmullin.com) for President of the United States. He is qualified:

1. Because of 11 years in the CIA, he has had counterterrorism and intelligence experience.

2. He has had business experience, graduating from Wharton School of Business and working in investment banking at Goldman Sachs.

3. Most recently, he served as a policy director for the U.S. House Republicans, thus giving him valuable government familiarity.

Some have said that a vote for Evan is throwing away a vote. However, because of the miraculous constitution under which we are governed, this is not true.

A candidate must receive 270 electoral votes to become president. In all states, except for Maine and Nebraska, the winner of the popular vote receives all the electoral votes from that state. In other words, if Evan wins the popular vote in Utah, he would receive Utah’s six electoral votes. The libertarian candidate could take all the votes from New Mexico, since he is strong in that state. With third party candidates taking some of the electoral votes, and it being a close race between Clinton and Trump, it is possible that neither Trump nor Clinton would receive the required 270 votes.

What happens in that scenario? The top three electoral-receiving candidates are presented to the U.S. House of Representatives, and they select the next president of the United States. There is a chance neither Clinton or Trump will be selected.

This is our chance, those of us who have been sickened by the debate rhetoric and the selfishness of those involved, to stand with someone who is taking a courageous chance on the integrity of the American people. This is our chance to have our voice heard!
