Grantsville track

Grantsville’s Hailey Stevens placed third in the long jump and ninth in the high jump at the UVU Invitational Saturday in Orem. Jennifer Christensen finished fourth in the high jump. The invitational featured two 5A teams, two 4A teams, three 3A teams and two 2A teams. Stevens jumped 16 feet-8.5-inches in the long jump and 5 feet-2-inches in the high jump. Christensen crossed the bar at 5 feet-4-inches in the high jump.

Stansbury softball

The Stallions extended their win streak to 10 with a 13-0 victory over Syracuse on Thursday and a 15-1 win at Ogden on Friday. Kimbri Herring pitched a one-hit shutout as she struck out eight of the 17 Syracuse batters she faced. Katelyn Robinson pounded three extra-base hits with two doubles and a triple. Elise Sutherland knocked a double and a triple. Karlee Manzione recorded two doubles with Anjalee Batchelor and Lindsay Guymon also smacking doubles. At Ogden, the Stallions ended it in the fifth inning when they led 15-1 over the Tigers. Manzione continued her hot hitting with a home run and a double. Janessa Bassett ripped a triple, and Robinson smacked a home run. Herring notched another victory in the circle. The Stallions were scheduled to host Tooele today and not play again until April 10 at Grantsville.

Stansbury baseball

The Stallions split a twin-bill with Mountain Crest on Saturday. Stansbury defeated the Mustangs 11-1 in the first game and lost 10-3 in the second game. Trenton Griffith fired a one-hitter for the Stallions in the first game, and his teammates were productive scoring 10 runs in the first four innings. Alex Mackay, Brek Bentley and Filip Anderson all recorded two extra-base hits in the victory. Alex Mackay knocked a double and a triple, Bentley had two doubles, Anderson two doubles and Wyatt Branch smacked a double. The Mustangs pounded 10 hits in the second game and grabbed a 5-1 lead after two innings. The Stallions rallied to cut the lead to 5-3 after three, but Mountain Crest widened the margin with five more runs in the final innings to win the game 10-3. Nick Mackay knocked a double in the second game for the Stallions.

Overlake golf

Dave Wilson and Garret McBride finished first in gross scoring with Nick Greigo and Tyler Butler finishing first in the net scoring at Overlake’s Icebreaker tourney Saturday. The weekly men’s league begins today and will run every Tuesday through the end of September. The next weekend event will be held on Saturday, April 20 and will feature individual gross and net scoring.

NRA banquet

The Tooele County Friends of NRA will hold their annual banquet and auction on April 19 at the Eagle’s Nest. Doors open at 5 p.m. Pre-event drawing tickets and gun table packages are available. Prime rib dinner will be served. Drawings, games, silent and live auctions raise funds to support national, state and local shooting sports and firearm safety programs. Umpires needed

Grantsville youth baseball is looking for umpires for the 2013 season. Season starts April 13 and ends June 6. Ages involved are 6-12. The first game is a Saturday, and the rest of the games will be during the week. Email: grantsvillebaseball@gmail.com if interested.

Utah Jazz

The Jazz cruised to their fifth consecutive victory Monday night by defeating the Portland Trail Blazers 112-102. Al Jefferson scored 24 points, and Mo Williams hit six 3-pointers in the victory. Former Weber State player and rookie standout Damian Lillard scored 17 points, including three 3-pointers for Portland to break the NBA’s single-season rookie record (188) for 3s. The Jazz host the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.
