Stansbury girls soccer at Roy

The Stansbury girls soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday afternoon, falling 3-0 to Roy on the road. The Stallions (2-1) traveled to Millville to face Ridgeline in a game that was not complete at press time Thursday.

Dugway volleyball at
Draper APA

The Dugway volleyball team struggled in its season opener Tuesday, falling 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-14) to Draper APA on the road. The Mustangs (0-1) are back in action Aug. 28 at home against Utah Military-Lehi.

Grantsville volleyball vs. Maeser Prep

The Grantsville volleyball team dropped a tough 25-22, 25-23, 25-22 decision to Maeser Prep on Wednesday night on the Cowboys’ home court. Grantsville (0-1) will face county rival Stansbury at home on Tuesday, with a road game against Tooele next Thursday.

Real Salt Lake

Two first-half goals by LAFC’s Christian Ramirez spelled doom for Real Salt Lake in a 2-0 loss Wednesday night at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles. The loss was made worse for RSL (10-10-5) when star goalkeeper Nick Rimando left the match with a hamstring injury, forcing recent Real Monarchs call-up Andrew Putna into his first Major League Soccer action. It is unknown how long Rimando will be out. RSL remains two points ahead of Vancouver for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, but has played one more game than the Whitecaps. Seattle is one point behind Vancouver, having played two fewer games than RSL. RSL is back in action Saturday on the road against the Houston Dynamo.

Salt Lake Bees

With 18 games left in the regular season, the Bees’ Pacific Coast League playoff hopes took a major hit with back-to-back losses to the El Paso Chihuahuas on Tuesday and Wednesday. Salt Lake’s 7-1 loss to El Paso at Smith’s Ballpark on Wednesday dropped the Bees (65-57) 4 1/2 games behind the Chihuahuas for first place in the Pacific Southern Division, with only the division champion advancing to postseason play. Salt Lake briefly led 1-0 after Sherman Johnson’s RBI single in the bottom of the second inning, only to see El Paso (69-52) tack on two runs in the third, four runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to blow the game open. Tuesday’s game was a 6-3 setback for the Bees, as Salt Lake got a two-run single from Jared Walsh in the third and a solo home run from Alberto Triunfel in the fourth. The Bees opened their final road trip of the season, an 11-game journey, with a game in Reno that was not complete at press time Thursday.
