Dugway baseball
vs. Wendover

The Wendover baseball team routed Tooele County rival Dugway 20-0 on Tuesday at Dugway Proving Ground, improving the Wildcats’ record to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in Class 1A North play. Wendover is scheduled to face Telos on Friday, while Dugway (0-3, 0-2) will play host to West Ridge Academy.

at Ogden

Mackenzie Landward had the lone goal for the Stansbury girls soccer team in the Stallions’ 5-1 loss to Ogden in a Region 11 road match Wednesday afternoon. Stansbury (2-4, 0-2 Region 11), which has allowed 10 goals in two region contests, will play host to Park City on Monday.

Tooele girls soccer
at Juan Diego

The Tooele girls soccer team held Juan Diego off the board in the first half of the teams’ Region 11 contest in Draper on Wednesday evening, but the Soaring Eagle got their offense going in the second half to beat the Buffaloes 2-0. It was a marked improvement for Tooele (1-4-1, 0-2 Region 11), which lost its first region game 8-1 to Bonneville. The Buffs will play host to Ogden on Monday.

Utah Royals FC

Amy Rodriguez scored on her own rebound in the 12th minute to propel Utah Royals FC to a crucial 1-0 win over the Washington Spirit on Wednesday night at Maureen Hendricks Field in Boyds, Maryland. Rodriguez took a feed from fellow forward Christen Press, only to have her initial shot saved by Washington goalkeeper Didi Haracic before converting on the rebound. URFC outshot Washington 21-2, including an 11-0 margin in shots on goal. The Royals (8-7-8), who currently occupy the fourth and final playoff spot in the National Women’s Soccer League standings, will play host to the Chicago Red Stars on Sept. 8 at Rio Tinto Stadium in their regular-season finale. It will also serve as Fan Appreciation Night.

Salt Lake Bees

The Bees (66-61) moved closer to elimination from playoff contention, dropping the first two games of their three-game series against the Las Vegas 51s on Tuesday and Wednesday on the road. Salt Lake has lost seven of its past eight games to fall 9 1/2 games behind first-place El Paso in the Pacific Southern Division, and the Bees’ magic number is down to 3 before they will be eliminated from the playoffs. The Bees wrapped up their series in Las Vegas on Thursday before beginning their final road series of the season — a four-game set against Fresno — on Friday. They will then come home to wrap up the regular season against Reno and Fresno from Aug. 28-Sept. 3.
