Tooele High School football coach Andru Jones announced Monday night he would not return next season as Tooele’s football coach.
Jones will take his skills to Viewmont High School where he will be announced as the head football coach on Wednesday.
“I’m still a little heartbroken about leaving,” Jones said in a text message this morning. “I’m sad, nervous and excited. It’s been a roller coaster the last couple of days.”
Jones coached at THS for three seasons. Tooele finished 7-3 this year and hosted a state playoff game for the first time in several years. Box Elder edged Tooele 22-14 in that game.
“It was an amazing three years,” Jones said.
GHS Hall of Fame
Grantsville High School is now accepting nominations for the Hall of Fame. This year’s deadline is Jan. 10, 2022.
The three categories are:
Pride: Any former Grantsville student-athlete who has excelled as a student-athlete at Grantsville, in college, or professionally.
Tradition: A teacher, administrator or staff member who has made significant contributions to the school or district.
Excellence: Any alumnus who has gone to achieve success in the world of education, business, research, medicine or other field, and has made contributions to their organization and to society.
The committee will go through the application process then select this year’s Hall of Fame inductees. All previous nominees within the last five years will be considered as well. The form is available at grantsvillehigh.tooeleschools.org.
THS football
Four Tooele High senior football players will play in and all-star game on Jan. 1 in St. George as part of the Utah team vs. Oklahoma. the Gridiron. The seniors are Chandler Yeck, Dylan Makoni, Gabe Medina, Payton Spouse and Aiden Rosser.
