The BYU men’s basketball team split two games at the Roman Legends Classic in Uncasville, Connecticut, defeating St. John’s 74-68 on Wednesday after losing to USC 79-53 on Tuesday. Alex Barcello had 20 points to lead the Cougars (3-1) in Wednesday’s victory, while Gideon George had 13 points and 15 rebounds. George and Matt Haarms had 11 points each in the loss to USC as BYU shot just 7-for-30 from 3-point range. The Cougars will face Utah State on Saturday at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan.
Utah Valley men’s basketball vs. Westminster
The Utah Valley men’s basketball team held off a second-half rally to defeat Westminster 79-71 on Wednesday night at the UCCU Center in Orem. Jamison Overton and Le’Tre Darthard each scored 16 points to lead the Wolverines (2-1), while Fardaws Aimaq added 12 points and 18 rebounds. Joey Andrews had 17 points for the visiting Griffins (0-2). UVU will play host to Southern Utah in a non-conference game next Wednesday in Orem.
Dixie State men’s basketball vs. North Dakota
The Dixie State men’s basketball team, playing in its first game as a Division I program, outscored North Dakota 50-44 in the second half to squeak past the Fighting Hawks 74-73 on Wednesday night at Burns Arena in St. George. Frank Staine had 19 points and Jacob Nicolds added 17 points and eight rebounds for the Trailblazers (1-0). Dixie State will play host to St. Katherine in a non-conference matchup on Saturday.
