Wendover boys basketball at Wells Tournament

The Wendover boys basketball team won four games in dominant fashion at the Wells Tournament, improving the Wildcats’ record to 5-0 this season. On Thursday, Wendover defeated Wells (Nev.) 65-19 behind 11-point performances by Eduardo Gomez and Jaime Montavo as 11 Wildcats scored in the game. Wendover then routed Carlin (Nev.) 59-20, with Gomez leading a balanced 11-man effort with eight points and Montavo and Joe Rivera each scoring seven. On Friday, the Wildcats’ dominance continued with a 57-19 win over Beaver Dam (Ariz.) in which Saul Valle had nine points and Gomez, Chris Reil, Gustavo Carrillo, Jason Shepherd and Peter Alvarez each had seven. Wendover finished with a 59-40 win over Whittell (Nev.), led by Gomez’ 21-point effort that included three 3-pointers. Carrillo added 16 points. The Wildcats travel to Richfield on Friday to take on Intermountain Christian in the Central Utah Boys Basketball Preview.

Grantsville girls basketball vs. Bear River

Grantsville senior Sarah Ellett had 17 points, including three 3-pointers, pulled down seven rebounds and picked off four steals to help lead the Grantsville girls basketball team to a 45-31 win over Bear River at home Thursday night. Hannah Butler had nine points, seven rebounds and four steals for the Cowboys (2-1), while Ashlee Edwards added eight points and seven steals. Grantsville traveled to Tooele for a non-region game that was not complete at press time Tuesday.

Wendover girls basketball at Wells Tournament

Wendover’s girls basketball team enjoyed an undefeated run through the Wells Tournament, posting four blowout victories over a two-day span to improve to 6-2 this season. The Wildcats opened the tournament with a 48-7 win over Carlin (Nev.) on Thursday, led by Adrianna Delgadillo’s 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and five steals. Yanely Duenas added eight points. Wendover then held off host school Wells (Nev.) for a 37-34 win, overcoming an early deficit with a 21-13 second-half surge. Alana Henderson had 10 points and 14 rebounds in the win and Duenas also scored 10 points. On Friday, the Wildcats routed Beaver Dam (Ariz.) 45-8, with Duenas and Tanya Duran each scoring seven points and Delgadillo, Henderson, Brenda Bermejo and Diana Solano scoring six each. Wendover wrapped up the tournament with a 56-13 win over Whittell (Nev.), with Yulisa Castaneda leading the way with 13 points. Angelica Badillo added 11 points, four assists and eight steals; Duran had 10 points, six rebounds, eight steals and four assists; and Henderson had nine points and 18 rebounds. Wendover is off until Dec. 18 when it plays host to St. Joseph.

Dugway boys basketball vs. Escalante

TJ Ramos hit four 3-pointers en route to 22 points, Jesus Valdiviezo scored 19 points and Jake Whalen added 14 to lead the Dugway boys basketball team to a 66-48 home win over Escalante on Friday. The Mustangs led 36-20 at halftime, but the Moquis cut the lead to nine points entering the fourth quarter before Dugway finished with a 22-13 advantage over the final eight minutes.

Stansbury boys basketball at Central Utah Basketball Preview

The Stansbury boys basketball team suffered a pair of narrow losses to teams from Region 9 at the Central Utah Basketball Preview in Richfield over the weekend. On Friday, the Stallions (1-2) lost to Dixie 45-43 in overtime. Drake Schlappi had 15 points to lead Stansbury, while Tanner Mears had 13 and Josh Jenkins added 10. Stansbury then suffered a 58-53 loss to Desert Hills on Saturday after falling behind by nine points in the first half. Schlappi had 18 points and seven rebounds and Jenkins added 16 points. The Stallions travel to Payson on Wednesday.

Tooele girls basketball
at Green Canyon

The Tooele girls basketball team (1-1) was tied with first-year school Green Canyon 30-30 entering the fourth quarter Friday night, but the Wolves outscored the Buffaloes 22-17 in the fourth quarter to capture a 52-47 win. Emily Webber led Tooele with 12 points, Abby Webber added nine and Blake Hervat scored eight. The Buffs played host to Grantsville in a game that was not complete at press time Tuesday night.

Dugway boys basketball vs. Grantsville junior varsity

The Dugway boys basketball team (2-2) struggled mightily in Monday night’s 72-21 home loss to Grantsville’s junior varsity squad. Jake Whalen led the Mustangs with eight points as Dugway made just eight field goals in the game and scored just five points after halftime. Davin Ekins led Grantsville ith 20 points, while Taylor Wood had 12. The Mustangs play host to the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind on Friday.
