THS girls lose
Morgan built a 20-5 lead over the Tooele Lady Buffaloes on Tuesday at the end of the first quarter, and they continued to roll to take a strangle hold on the Region 11 standings. Morgan (11-2, 5-0) ended up winning 77-28 on the strength of a 40-point first half and a 21-point scoring performance by McKenzie Schenk. With Ogden’s loss to Stansbury, Morgan becomes the lone unbeaten in the region standings. Tooele sophomore guard Taylor Thomas led the team with 7 points, followed by senior guard McKae Searle with 6 points and senior guard McKenzie Alvarez with 5 points. All three of them scored on 3-pointers as well. The Lady Buffs play at Ben Lomond tonight for a battle for fifth place, and then they play home games against Bear River and Stansbury.

Dugway sports
After a nine-day hiatus, the Dugway boys will return to the basketball court on Friday to battle West Wendover, Nev., while the girls take their own hiatus in order to work through a string of three consecutive losses. The Dugway boys (3-9) haven’t played in too many close games this season with their most recent blowout loss coming on Jan. 2 against Emery — an 80-36 loss on the road. Josh Johnson still leads Dugway in scoring with 14 points per game. However, in Dugway’s most recent game against Emery, Johnson scored just 4 points. The Dugway girls (7-8, 0-1) started off with a 7-5 record, but now they have lost three games in a row dating back to Dec. 28. The most recent loss was a 41-37 region loss to Tintic (3-12, 1-0) on Tuesday. Nadaja Bullock poured in 21 points for the Lady Mustangs in the losing effort, and Katreena Johnson aided her with 10 points. Allie Wall scored 5 points, and Cynthia Kimler hit a free throw for her only point. The difference came in the fourth quarter with Dugway leading Tintic 27-23. The Lady Mustangs allowed Tintic to outscore them 18-10 in the final period to end up losing the game. Dugway shot 41 percent from the free-throw line on 7-of-17 attempts. Five games still remain in the season for the Lady Mustangs to get back to their winning ways and capture the region title. The next game is on Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. against the Wendover Wildcats.
