All Region 11 basketball
Tooele’s Justin Pollmann was voted to the First Team All Region 11 boys basketball team by the coaches. Jake Miles, from state champion Morgan, was the Region 11 MVP. Stansbury’s Ryan Robbins, Grantsville’s Devin Adams and Tooele’s Tyler Woodruff were selected to the All Region 11 second team. Honorable mention players were Grantsville’s Caleb Edwards and Devon Arellano.
Tooele softball
The Tooele softball team has yet to taste victory against formidable competition. The Buffaloes lost five games at the SUNROC Invitational in St. George on Friday and Saturday. Tooele lost to Alta 4-2, Copper HIlls 14-4, Lehi 13-3, Lone Peak 14-4 and Riverton 4-2. The Buffaloes play at Bingham on Monday and host Hunter on Tuesday, March 26.
Tooele football
There will be an informational player-parent meeting for all those interested in playing football at Tooele High School next year. The meeting will cover the summer schedule, fees and other important information regarding football next season. The meeting will be held Thursday, March 28 at 6 p.m. in the Tooele High School commons area.

Overlake Golf
The Icebreaker tournament for Overlake men’s league is scheduled for Saturday, March 30. The format for this year’s Icebreaker is a two-man Ryder Cup (six holes scramble, six holes best ball, six holes alternate shot). Tee times will be between 10 a.m. and noon. League play will start on Tuesday, April 2.
Umpires needed
Grantsville youth baseball is looking for umpires for the 2013 season. Season starts April 13 and ends June 6. Ages involved are 6-12. The first game is a Saturday, and the rest of the games will be during the week. Email: grantsvillebaseball@gmail.com if interested.
Season canceled
West Wendover High School cancelled its boys baseball season this spring due to lack of players. The team started with 13 players, but when the school performed its initial eligibility check, the team dropped to 11. After a couple of weeks of practices, the grades did not improve and the numbers eventually dwindled to nine, according to the Elko Daily Free Press. Later, two players quit the team to shrink the squad to seven players to force cancelation of the entire season.
College basketball
BYU (21-11) will host Washington (18-15) tonight at 7:30 p.m in the first round of the NIT. Weber State (26-6) will host Cal Poly (18-13) on Wednesday night in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com tournament. The University of Utah (15-18) finished off the season strong winning four of its final five games. The Utes defeated Oregon State (14-18) and No. 19 Oregon (26-8) at home before upsetting teams in the first two rounds of the PAC-12 tournament in Las Vegas. Utah opened the tourney with a 69-66 victory over USC (14-18) and then defeated Cal (20-11) 79-69 in overtime. PAC-12 tourney winner Oregon ousted the Utes in the semifinals 64-45. Utah State (21-10) lost to Texas-Arlington (19-13) in the first round of the WAC Tournament 83-78.
Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz (34-33) missed a chance to stay tied with the Los Angeles Lakers for eighth place in the Western Conferenc standings by losing to the New York Knicks Monday night at EnergySolutions Arena 90-83. Utah led 44-42 at intermission, but shot only 28.9 percent after halftime and were outscored nine points by the Knicks. Gordon Hayward had a solid game once again starting for the Jazz. He scored 17 points and had four blocked shots. Paul Millsap, Al Jefferson and Marvin Williams all scored in double figures. Utah plays its next three games in Texas at Houston on Wednesday, at San Antonio Friday and at Dallas on Saturday.
