Tooele County Night set tonight at Delta Center

Utah Jazz will battle the Los Angeles Lakers tonight in the Delta Center and many Tooele County residents can receive a discount to see the top notch NBA action.

All tickets for Tooele County residents only are slashed tonight. The lower bowl seats are just $56, down from the regular price of $76. The upper bowl seats will be a rock bottom price of $15, reduced from the regular price of $34.50. This deal is for just Tooele County residents only. Game time is 7 p.m.

Local slugger success

Former Lady Buff player and All-State MVP Amber Pitt has taken her softball prowess to the next level.

Pitt pounded out two hits, including a threerun round trip blast, and had four RBI to lead Salt Lake Community College to a 13-1 victory March 5 over Colorado.

The Tooele resident also smacked out five hits in seven official trips to the plate and recorded five RBI in a double-header sweep of Dixie, 8-0 and 9-4 March 11. In another doubleheader with Dixie, Pitt logged a four-for-six day in the two games with four RBI in another sweep. In fact, the former THS star smacked a clutch two-out, two-strike single to chase home two teammates in the sixth inning and erase a 4-3 Dixie lead and vault SLCC to a dramatic 5-4 victory.

The Lady Bruins battled to the conference championship last year and finished sixth in the nation in a national tournament in Florida last May. This is Pitt’s second year on the team.

Tooele County stars

Dugway duo Matt Bate and Dane Schofield and Wendover’s Matt Mascaro turned in a strong performance to help the 1A North All-Stars register a 93-84 triumph over the South All-Stars Saturday.

Schofield popped the cords for 14 and Mascaro netted 10 for the ’Cats. Bate also registered five points and ran the offense for the 1A North squad.

Buffs fall to Bears

Bear River produced two second- half goals to edge past Tooele 2-1 in the Region 11 boys soccer opener Friday.

The Bears parlayed scores from Nick Celaya and Seth Hansen into the victory.

Ian Mohr scored the lone tally of the game for the Buffs. Tooele travels to Ogden today for a 3:30 p.m. league affair against the Tigers.

Scots battle past Cowboys, 3-1

Ben Lomond tallied two goals in the second-half to snap a 1-1 halftime deadlock and capture a hard fought 3-1 triumph over the Cowboys Friday in Grantsville.

Azarel Castalina fired in a pair of scores and teammate Jake Christensen added another to lead the Scots to the road victory. Gordon Smith recorded the lone goal of the game for the Cowboys.
