Sports Wrap – March 22, 2012

Stansbury baseball

Stansbury opened the Region 11 baseball schedule with a 10-0 shellacking of Ben Lomond in five innings. Brek Bentley picked up the win on the mound for the Stallions with a three-hitter. The Stallions pounded out 11 hits with home runs from Jake Witkowski and Tyson Haddon, a triple from Matt Lindsley and doubles from Jackson Clausing, Lindsley and Haddon. Stansbury hosts Bear River today and plays at Bountiful on Saturday.

Stansbury softball

Stansbury improved to 9-0 on the season with a 29-0 demolishing of Ben Lomond on Wednesday. The Stallions should get a test on Friday when they host Bear River.

Tooele baseball

Tooele played well against top ranked Ben Lomond Wednesday in Garland losing 6-3. Tooele led 2-1 heading into the fourth inning when the Bears pushed across two in the fourth and three in the fifth. Tooele out-hit the Bears 10-7, but could not collect any extra base hits. The Buffaloes play at Granger today and at Ogden on Tuesday.

Adult soccer league

TC United is currently taking adult sign-ups for the spring season that is set to start on Saturday, April 21. This will be an eight-game season played on late Saturday afternoons at Deseret Peak Complex. Fees will be $50 per player or $400 per team. U10 Comp Soccer

Players are needed for a U10 boys competition soccer team based in Tooele County. Players must be born after Aug. 1, 2001. For more information, contact Stephanie Barrus at sbarrus@hotmail.com or (435) 843-1079.

THS baseball clinic

Tooele High School will hold a baseball clinic on Saturdays March 24 and March 31. The cost is $25. The camp will be held at the Dow James Field from 10 p.m. to 11:30 a.m. (K-3rd graders), and noon to 1:30 (4th-8th graders). You may call the THS Financial Office at (435) 833-1978 ext. 2106 to pay in advance, or you may pay when you attend the camp. In case of inclement weather, please go to the THS gym. THS spirit wraps

The Tooele baseball team is once again selling the spirit wrap blankets. The blanket’s design celebrates Tooele High School’s Centennial. The cost of the blanket is $50 each. If purchasing more than one blanket, the price will lower to $45 each. Contact the THS Financial Office at (435) 833-1978 ext. 2106 to purchase the blankets. The blankets will be available late April. Any questions can be directed to coach Catham Beer at his email cbeer@tooeleschools.org.

Overlake Icebreaker golf

The Links at Overlake will its Icebreaker golf tournament on Sunday, March 25. Format will still be a two-man best ball. The tourney will start at 11 a.m. and cost is $34 ($29 for green fees/cart and $5 for entry fee). Please call the pro shop at (435) 882-8802 to sign up or e-mail overlakenews@rocketmail.com.

Stansbury youth football

The Stansbury District Ute Conference football program is seeking coaches. Anyone interested in being a head football coach for the 2012 football season should contact Tiffany at (435) 840-8080 or by email at milotiffany6@msn.com by Wednesday, March 22.

Miller Racing

Miller Racing will be joining the SCCA Pro Racing Pirelli World Challenge Championships for a limited schedule of races in 2012, starting this weekend with the series’ season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla. Team principal Roger Miller will drive the No. 23 Ford Mustang Boss 302S, sponsored by the Larry H. Miller Dealerships along with Miller Motorsports Park and the Ford Racing High Performance Driving School, in the GTS class. The car will  be prepared, maintained and crewed by Rehagen Racing of Livonia, Mich., which specializes in fielding Mustangs in various racing series. Miller Racing will contest nine races at six events during the course of the 2012 season. After the season opener in St. Petersburg, which consists of two races, the team will compete on the streets of Long Beach, Calif., April 13-15; Miller  Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, April 28-29 (with guest driver Dan McKeever, as Miller will have a scheduling conflict); on Detroit’s Belle Isle, June 2-3 (two races); Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, August 3-5 (two races); and Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., Aug. 25-26.
