County strong at State races

The Tooele Valley Chariot Association shined at the Utah State Chariot Championships. On Saturday, six of the nine teams entered, qualified for the trophy dash on Sunday: Dale, Gale and Rex in the first division, Chritchlow Quarterhorses #1 in the third division, Frank Sweeting in the fourth division, Lynn and Ron running in the sixth division, Fox’s Auto in the seventh division and Rowdy Friends Racing in the eighth division.

On Sunday, Frank Sweeting running in the fourth division, Lynn and Ron running in the sixth division and Rowdy Friends Racing running in the eighth division all took first place.

Dale, Gale and Rex running in the first division missed the state championship by .02 seconds placing second, and Fox’s Auto Running in the seventh division placed second. Chritchlow Quarterhorses #1 placed third in the third division and Dale and Scot running for time in the second division placed fourth. All in all, seven of the nine teams received trophies.

The top six divisions will go to the World Chariot Championships being held in Ogden at the Golden Spike Arena on March 19-20, 25-27. Races start at noon.

THS 5k results

Jon Lee and Amanda Benson topped the over-18 divisions while Shane Ahlstrom and Risa Garcia captured the high school division crowns in Saturday’s annual Tooele High School 5K Fun-Run.

Lee seized the male over-18 division at 16:44 and Kyle Jones was right behind with a silver status at 16:53. Dantiz grabbed third place at 18:29 and Joe Shumway took fourth place at 19:39.

Benson claimed top honors in the female over-18 group with a first place finish of 22:36 and Jill Carr was right behind in second place at 22:42. Liz Dalton garnered third place at 23:28 and Kaytlin Allen took fourth place at 24:03.

Ahlstrom won the male high school division crown with a first place time of 16:23 and Shay Asay was right behind with a runner-up status of 16:27. Will Anderson grabbed third place at 17:05 and Race Warburton was right behind, also at 17:05.

Garcia topped the female high school division group at 21:15 and Brittany Lopez garnered runner-up honors at 21:54. Tiffany Caldwell battled to a bronze at 22:17 and Erin Christiansen was fourth at 22:26.
