Tooele baseball at Ogden

The Tooele baseball team’s recent hot streak was cooled off a bit Thursday afternoon as the Buffaloes fell 4-1 to Ogden in a Region 11 road game Thursday afternoon. Ogden scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Tooele’s Jaxson Miner and Trey Maumasi each had a pair of hits, but Tooele left six runners on base. Payton Shields took the loss on the mound, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks in five innings. Brett Porthan pitched a perfect sixth inning in relief.

Grantsville boys soccer
vs. Summit Academy

Dayne Linton and Nemo Fuluvaka each scored in the second half of the Grantsville boys soccer team’s 6-2 loss to Summit Academy in its final game of the season Friday in Grantsville. The Cowboys (7-8, 0-8 Region 13) were unable to advance to postseason play, thanks in large part to an extremely difficult Region 13 schedule.

Stansbury boys soccer
at Ogden

The Stansbury boys soccer team hung tough through 80 minutes of regulation play on Friday, but couldn’t hold on as Ogden broke through with the golden goal in overtime to beat the Stallions 1-0 in the final game of the Region 11 season Friday in Ogden. Stansbury (4-11, 4-8 Region 11) won’t be advancing to postseason play, having finished sixth in the seven-team region.

Grantsville softball
at Summit Academy

Kylee Leach, Breana Hiatt, Hannah Butler and Addison Smith all hit home runs as the Grantsville softball team demolished Summit Academy 17-1 in its Region 13 finale Friday in Bluffdale. Hiatt had four RBIs in the win for the Cowboys (19-5, 8-0 Region 13), who also got three hits each from Smith and Maizie Clark. Hailey Delaney added a double and Leach combined with Maddison Peterson on a one-hitter. Grantsville travels to Washington Terrace for a nonregion game against Bonneville on Wednesday.

Stansbury softball at Ogden

Berkeley Bryant homered, Kalee Philips tripled and Makayla Witkowski doubled to go along with a three-inning, six-strikeout no-hitter in the pitcher’s circle as the Stansbury softball team routed Ogden 16-0 in a Region 11 road game Friday afternoon. Witkowski was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs. Philips and Bryant each had three RBIs and Makinley Miller had four RBIs.

Stansbury baseball
at Juan Diego

The Stansbury baseball team lost the final game of its three-game series against Juan Diego on Friday, falling 12-2 to the Soaring Eagle in Draper. Austin Woodhouse and Colton Sundloff each hit a double in the loss for Stansbury (6-15, 5-10 Region 11), which opened a crucial three-game series against Bonneville at home Tuesday afternoon. Stansbury would advance to the postseason if it sweeps Bonneville and Ogden wins no more than one of its final four games against Juan Diego or Park City, the top two teams in the region. If Stansbury wins two of the three games, it would need Ogden to lose all four of its remaining contests.

Tooele baseball
vs. Ben Lomond

Jaxson Miner, Jaden Park and Griffen Bate each hit a double and Ryan Peterson and Dalton Harris combined on a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and two walks as Tooele wrapped up its Region 11 season with a 12-0 win over Ben Lomond on Friday at Dow James Park. Miner and Park each had three hits in the victory for Tooele (10-12, 10-8 Region 11), which is off until a nonregion game Monday at home against Mountain Crest.

Stansbury softball
at Swing for Life Tournament

The Stansbury softball team went 4-0 on Saturday at the Swing for Life Tournament at the Cottonwood Complex in Millcreek. The Stallions (17-6, 7-2 Region 11) opened the day with a 4-1 win over West Jordan, led by Lindsey Allie’s 3-for-3 performance that included a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. Stansbury then beat Copper Hills 6-0 as Payten Staley homered and Kalee Philips, Madison Hunt, Berkeley Bryant and Kaeley Loader all hit doubles in support of pitcher Makayla Witkowski’s four-inning perfect game that included nine strikeouts. The Stallions routed North Summit 19-0 thanks to a 3-for-3 performance by Witkowski, who drove in five runs in addition to throwing three more perfect innings with seven strikeouts. In the nightcap, Stansbury scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the fourth to edge Kearns 5-4. Staley was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Witkowski allowed just one earned run, striking out seven and walking none in four innings. The Stallions played host to Juan Diego in a Region 11 contest that was not complete at press time Tuesday afternoon.
